New Capabilities

Incorporating the new technologies during the design and development stages of the software has allowed a series of new capabilities to be introduced.  The software is fully three dimensional and incorporates a seafloor model, vehicles with real-world elements like suspended lines and anchors as well as various structures into its design. Since all of these elements are not just pictures but are spatially correct representations with considerable dimensional detail available it is possible to view spatial relationships between them.

In addition to handling spatial relationships, temporal relationships are incorporated into the architecture. All raw data may be recorded in the native formats provided by the instruments and may be viewed and analyzed within the by the software for quality control and report generation. An ancillary package supports integration of dimensional control, acoustic ranges and precise attitude data collected at different epochs into complex solutions of points on structures for life-of-field metrology calculations.

Inertial navigation is included directly in the software to provide precise, fast updating of underwater vehicles. In addition to integrating with traditional underwater positioning systems such as USBL and LBL (at the range level) the spatially precise database may be used for feature-based navigation around areas with existing infrastructure by having the underwater vehicle update its position to match what is being seen on a video camera or sonar.
